Card-management platform engineering
Module development and production support on a card-issuing platform used by banks and fintechs, with multi-threaded batch jobs, SQL tuning and PCI DSS controls.
- Core Java
- Struts
- In-house frameworks
- Informix
- SQL
- Apache Tomcat
Context
The platform runs card programs for banks and fintechs. Legacy and newer card-management applications run side by side.
Problem
Every change reaches live payment systems. It has to be correct, traceable and compliant, and some production issues need a fix the same day.
Approach
Modules
- Develop and support modules across legacy and new card-management applications
- Audit logging for transaction traceability
Production support
- Investigate and resolve issues on live payment systems, often under tight timelines
Batch processing and SQL
- Multi-threaded batch jobs for high-volume financial data
- SQL tuning, checked against the execution plan before and after each change
Compliance and quality
- Work within PCI DSS requirements
- Code review and SonarQube, PMD, SpotBugs and Checkstyle gates on every change
- Contributed to the platform migration from Java 8 to a current Java LTS
Stack
- Core Java
- Struts
- In-house frameworks
- Informix
- SQL
- Apache Tomcat
What I learned
- Read the execution plan before trusting a query, and measure again after the change.
- On a live payment system, small reviewed changes are easier to reason about and to roll back.
